Megan’s Wings Adopt-a-Family Program has been adopting families through City of Hope, Kaiser Permanente Fontana & Loma Linda Children’s Hospital for the holidays since December 2006. In 2010, assistance was also provided for children being treated at Children’s Hospital LA & Children’s Hosptial of Orange.
December is generally the most cost-intensive month of the year for most families. Add the economic difficulties that often result from caring for a critically ill child, making December financially stressful for many pediatric oncology families. The Adopt A Family Program’s intent is to alleviate some of the financial stress this time of year for families with limited resources as a result of their child’s diagnosis.
Since the Adopt A Family Program began, Megan’s Wings has brought Christmas joy & hope to hundreds families in need.
Families are selected through social services at each hospital after meeting general Adopt A Family guidelines. Family’s fill out an Adopt A Family Form providing a wish list for each child within their family (siblings included). Megan’s Wings volunteers take these precious wish lists and purchase gifts the children really want, but the family can’t afford. Each gift is lovingly hand wrapped and the care packages are delivered by volunteers to the families at their home bringing joy and hope in a very personal way. Each family also receives a much needed gas, grocery & clothing voucher to help with general expenses during this expensive time of year. Pre-cooked Turkey or Ham Dinner was delivered to many local families on Christmas Eve compliments of Upland Colonies Albertson’s.
Megan’s Wings Adopt A Family program offers a unique way for individuals to make a real impact on a critically ill child and their family. Different levels of adoption are available through this Donor-to-Family Matching Program.

2010 Adopt A Family Recap
Megan’s Wings adopted 50 families this past December 2010 and delivered each child gifts from their wishlist & groceries, gas & clothing gift cards for mom & dad! Megan’s Wings partnered with Steven’s Hope for Children providing several oncology families a night out to see the Ontario Reign Hockey Team in action. Steven’s Hope also donated Kid’s Klothing gift cards for our local oncology families to use at the Steven’s Hope Children’s Boutiques in Upland and Rancho Cucamonga. On Christmas Eve, Megan’s Wings volunteers hand delivered 37 pre-cooked Turkey & Ham Dinners (compliments of Upland Colony Albertsons) to families in need of a last minute helping hand. Our Hospital & Clinic Support was supplemented by over 200 toys donated by Ontario Fire Department’s Fill the Bus Drive. Megan’s Wings volunteers delivered toys to City of Hope bringing a smile to oncology kids needing to spend the holidays in the hospital for treatment or illness.
Dozens of volunteers helped make this season’s Adopt A Family program run smoothly! Thank you for your dedication and help bringing Christmas joy and blessings to so many local pediatric oncology families!
