The Megan’s Wings “Patient Aid” Program has been operating with Kaiser Permanente- Fontana, City Of Hope, and Loma Linda Children’s Hospital since January 2006, and provides aid to patients and their families who are in financial crisis as a result of their child’s treatment for cancer. In 2010, our aid program also reached patients receiving treatment at Children’s Hospital LA and Children’s Hospital of Orange. The Aid Program is an application-driven program with initial screening provided by Social Service representatives at each hospital. If the patient and their family fit general “Patient Aid” program guidelines, they, or the social worker submits an application for assistance directly to Megan’s Wings. The Aid Program is designed to minimize administrative delays and provide funds to those in need as quickly as possible.

Since the Patient Aid Program’s launch, Megan’s Wings has provided aid to hundreds of children and families in need. We have funded items such as rent or mortgage, transportation, insurance co-payments, physician bills, funeral costs, gas & grocery vouchers, prosthetic limbs, complimentary nutrition/therapies not covered by insurance and many other items.

Whether you would like to give a One-Time Gift, become a monthly donor through our Ongoing Support Program, or be matched directly with one family through our Adopt-a-Family Program, we provide you with the options to make a real impact on a family in desperate need of help.

All donations are 100% tax deductible, and your donation provides crucial funds to families in our community struggling to survive while supporting their critically ill child.

2010 Patient Aid Program Recap

Megan’s Wings broke records in funds raised and support given in 2010! Thanks to successful fundraising events, corporate sponsorships & new grant funding, Megan’s Wings was able to reach more families than ever before in 2010. Our small foundation continues to grow despite economic hardships across the country, providing critical aid to help keep families afloat during a difficult time in their child’s life.

We feel very fortunate to see increased funding and growth during economically challenging times because requests for help have doubled in the last 2 years. We have fortunately not had to cut back our programs like many charities have been forced to do because donations were down this last year. Our Patient Aid Program saw an increase in funding and assisted patients from new hospitals in 2010 including Children’s Hospital of LA & Children’s Hospital of Orange. Now operating in 5 hospitals, Megan’s Wings was able to react quickly when aid was needed at the 11th hour including airfare to fly patients & their parents to and from critical treatment in other areas of the US & Chile. Lodging and car rental coverage also assisted families away from home. Payments for supplemental nutrition not covered by insurance helped children maintain quality of life and ongoing support of monthly household bills such as rent, mortgage, utilities, phone or car payments gave parents peace of mind when they needed to take time off from work to care for their sick child. We continue to assist with funeral costs for families not prepared for this tragedy. We couldn’t provide this assistance without new and faithful supporters who allow us to keep Megan’s memory alive in this very meaningful way.
