Megan’s Wings is helping keep pediatric cancer kiddos and their families safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
With compromised immune systems, kids with cancer are the highest at risk group for COVID-19. Many of their parents have had to drastically change their lifestyle to protect their child from this pandemic. A great number are essential workers who’ve taken a leave of absence from their job to keep their child safe. Others have been laid off work in the service industries. These vulnerable families are struggling to put food on the table, pay rent and get their kiddo to treatment.
Megan’s Wings is working above and beyond to keep these kids safe and provide their family with the support they need. We are working diligently with medical social services at the clinics and hospitals to identify the needy families and get them help. Thanks to emergency donor support, Megan’s Wings Patient Aid and Gas Assistance Programs are functioning at a high level during this critical time when our fundraising events canceled, but families needing help doubled. We are helping families with house payments, utilities, transportation issues, food and gas gift cards and more. We helped a family rebuild their transmission who had been previously taking the bus to treatment; no longer an option since it is not safe. Our Gas Assistance Program currently provides 45 families with up to 4 months of gas cards to help get their kiddo to treatment. We helped two families pay for prescriptions their child critically needed and another child get acupuncture treatment to manage side effects of chemo; out-of-pocket costs not covered by insurance. We’re helping an Upland teen cancer survivor earn her Girl Scout Gold Award making care baskets for kids with cancer during the pandemic, and thanks to tremendous efforts from volunteer sewers, we’re providing families with homemade masks. We’ve helped more families pay rent/mortgages the last two months then we normally do in four months.
We can use your support more then ever! Please consider donating to Megan’s Wings Crisis Fund. Our traditional Fundraising Events are not an option for the unforeseeable future. Donations are 100% tax deductible, and you will be helping local kiddos with cancer! Megan’s Wings is a 501c3 charity - Federal Tax ID#56-2501762.
The CARES Act created a new above-the-line deduction for all taxpayers for charitable contributions of up to $300 through the end of 2020 (Section 2204). Additionally, The CARES Act suspended the existing limitation of charitable contributions for individuals that itemize, raising it from 60% of adjustable gross income to 100% for 2020 tax year. If you own a business, the limit for contributions from corporations increased from 10% of taxable income to 25% (Section 2205). Monthly contributions of $25 - $50 buys a gas card to help get a child to weekly treatments. A $100 - $300 donation helps pay utilities, and a $500 - $1000 donation helps a family manage rent during the pandemic. Together we can continue to offer help to local families with a personal touch and genuine care.
